I hope you had a good week and that you are staying safe and well. We are settling into a new routine at the Brown house as my husband has started back to work on a summer schedule, and my eldest son will be starting to go back to work part-time next week since his place of business has re-opened with limited hours. This all means my days are starting and ending a little earlier at present, which is great since the lawn will soon be long enough for its first mowing, and I like to get that over with in the morning. That’s it for my short personal life update. Now, let’s get on with my book news.
Writing News
This week, I wrote one more chapter of Protecting Miss Darcy. I’m up to chapter 11 in that story currently, and in this chapter, Wes makes an appearance and is his usual fun and slightly annoying self. I’ll let you have a little peek at that this week.
…Alfred chuckled and began to walk down the hall with Wes at his side.
“But not even I am supposed to know, so do not say anything.”
“Your secret is safe with me. I am not the sort who likes to gossip.”
Wes clapped him on the shoulder. “You are a good man, Young Alfred. Now, where are we riding?”
Alfred had hoped to ride by himself. “Where is Lori?”
“Playing billiards with Bingley.”
“And Mr. Darcy?”
“Reading.”
“And your brother?”
“He is on his way to Longbourn, which is where Kitty, Georgie, and Lydia are going.”
They stood at the top of the stairs.
“There is no one else,” Wes said. “I am afraid you are stuck with me.”
“Could you not entertain yourself?”
“I could,” Wes replied as they descended the stairs, “but what fun is there in that?” He stopped and turned to face Alfred who was a step behind him on the stairs. “You have been spending far too much time alone.”

And then, I wrote another chapter of Her Convenient Forever, which puts me at chapter 4. I found myself being charmed by Mr. Love in this chapter. Here’s a little excerpt from the end of that chapter. (Something you might want to know about Boyd’s son four-year-old, Matthias, is that he rarely speaks and is an anxious child which started about a year ago when his mother died.)
…“Do you think it would be allowable for Matthias and me to take a walk in the garden? He has been an excellent young man, and I think a reward of running and playing might be just the thing after sitting for so long.”
“That is a capital idea,” Mr. Love agreed. “And then, we can see if Felicity is still in her favourite spot.” He winked at Matthias. “Do you think we should take her an oatcake?”
Matthias’s eyes lit with delight and his head bobbed up and down.
“And maybe we can take an extra for ourselves for later,” Mr. Love whispered as he stacked three oatcakes in the middle of a napkin he had spread out on the table and then tied the corners to make a neat little package before handing it to Matthias. “I can trust you to carry these carefully, can I not?”
Again, Matthias nodded.
“I thought I could.” Mr. Love stood and extended his hand to Matthias. “Shall we, sir?”
Matthias placed his hand in Mr. Loves, and before his father had done more than rise from his chair, was leaving the room with Mr. Love.
Boyd shook his head in wonder as a smile spread across his face. “He has never taken so easily to anyone,” he said to Mrs. Love.
“Ah, but he has never met anyone as charming as Mr. Love,” she assured him. “He has a way with children. It is quite endearing if you ask me.”
“I cannot disagree…

And then, I got notes back on His Irreplaceable Belle so I have started working my way through that story looking for typos and little improvements that might be needed. I also wrote the book description and put it on preorder. Now, I just need to get the final reading done so I can upload the manuscript, and then send out advance reader copies. After that, I’ll get the print book ready and work on all the other numerous little details that need to be done before a book publishes.

They say time heals all wounds, but can it truly restore two shattered hearts?
Not every father wishes for his daughter to marry a physician. Fredrick “Fritz” Norman discovered that years ago when the father and brother of the lady he loved attempted to destroy him. Since then, he has become a great success in medicine. However, in the affairs of the heart, he has failed miserably to find anyone who can replace his Belle.
Persuaded by the tears of her mother, a young Annabelle “Belle” Chapman once gave up the man she loved. For years, she has regretted that decision. Six years later and still unmarried, her father declares her a spinster and sends her to be a companion to her aunt.
As fate would have it, Belle’s aunt is one of Fritz’s patients, and no amount of persuasion is going to make her willing to give up the best physician in Bath. Belle and Fritz are just going to have to learn to see each other while knowing all the while that they can be nothing more than acquaintances. Or so they think.
However, as Belle and Fritz will discover, a love like theirs can neither be denied nor replaced by another –no matter what obstacles might stand in its way.

Book Review
I made this graphic with part of AvidReaders’ review on Amazon. Here is what that review says in full:
This is the first original story I’ve read from this author – I generally read her JAFF stories. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a novella, not a full length novel so it was just the right length for a rainy morning read.
If you are looking for angst or lots of roadblocks to a HEA, this is not the story for you. The author introduces the characters, there a short period of back and forth, then a quick resolution. Can’t wait to read the next story in this series.
Thank you, AvidReaders, for the review and for giving this book a chance. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

Something Extra
I love this painting! Especially, the expression of the mother. 🙂 I know I have felt like she looks.
I found this while looking for some visual inspiration for children since I was writing about Matthias in Her Convenient Forever. This image is on Wikimedia Commons here. It is identified as “Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville (1773-1846) and his wife, Lady Harriet Elizabeth Cavendish (1785−1862), and their children; and possibly also his two illegitimate children” and painted by Thomas Phillips.
However, if you read the notes included with this painting or do any reading about the 1st Earl Granville and his children, the ages and gender of some of the children in this picture seem to be off. It also says that some sites identify this as the Earl’s brother’s family, but there are problems with that as well.
So, who is this picture of? I don’t know, but I do know that I like it.
Have a good weekend! Be safe and well. (And maybe read a book 🙂 ) I’ll see you on Monday.

Great picture! I love the cover of the book.
Thanks! 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend.
Such a busy post. I love that picture. Yes… that poor mother’s face says it all. I wonder what is on the baby’s face. I tried to blow it up and look closer. She is probably saying, “OK, who gave the baby chocolate?” Or perhaps it was berries. Anyway… that child wants to play and mother is not having any of it. Blessings, Leenie. You life sounds like it is about to get back to some sort of normal.Hang in there.
I hope it is about to get back to some sort of normal 🙂 Of course, I have enjoyed having my guys around more, too. I thought it looked like the baby had some berries on his(?) face. And I love how the father is just standing there so nonchalantly while all the commotion is going on. 🙂
I think this would make a great book cover! Looking forward to the week ahead. I need to get back to reading my Leenie posts.
It would look good on a book. I hope your week goes well, Michelle!
