No Hockey? No Problem. Here’s a FREE Book.

As I was sitting down to create this Saturday Broadsheet, I decided that I wanted to attempt to add a little brightness to this day. Therefore, you will find an impromptu free book weekend and sale for this weekend. Keep reading, all the info you need is just down a bit under book promotions.

Writing News

Hey, how has your week been? Kind of crazy? Mine was pretty routine except I had to shift my errand day to Thursday since we are supposed to be getting a heavy dose of rain starting later today (Friday) into tomorrow. I’m not fond of running errands in the rain. 🙂 I also ended up taking a trip to the doctor on Thursday to get some antibiotics and to refill a prescription that is one of those take it daily things.

Those errands and all took all day, so I am hoping to write a chapter of Protecting Miss Darcy this evening or tomorrow. Here’s the list of stories and the progress made along with a small snippet from each:

His Irreplaceable Belle: I am up to chapter 12 and (spoiler warning) this chapter starts with the kiss that last week’s chapter ended with.

He loved her. Tears slid down Belle’s cheeks as she tangled her fingers in Fritz’s hair, holding him to her as if she needed his kisses to sustain her. He loved her. There was no more wonderful thought in all the world. How often had she longed for him to say that to her once again? Nearly every day for six years. How often had she cried because she had thought she would never hear him say that to her ever again? Just as often as she had wished to hear it.

He pulled back, breaking their kiss so that he could brush her tears away. “Don’t cry,” he whispered.

Matching Mr. Darcy: I wrote chapter 7 of this story this week. Here is how that chapter currently begins:

“Father is planning a dinner party for next week.” Charlotte linked her arm with Elizabeth’s where they stood outside the church the following morning.

“Is that what they are talking about now?” Elizabeth had been watching her father and Simon. The two of them had been very talkative. Nearly everyone who passed them received a greeting. Such a thing was not unusual for Simon, but her father was not usually so animated. Just a few moments ago, Sir William had joined them.

“I believe so.”

The two of them began strolling in the direction of Longbourn. Not because they were both going there, but because it would move them to a place where a conversation could be had with a greater chance of it not becoming gossip.

“Mr. Newell has been at Longbourn for some time now.”

Elizabeth did not miss the implication in her friend’s tone. “Unfortunately.”

Protecting Miss Darcy: I will write chapter 2 of this story before the week ends. I got chapter 1 written last Saturday, so I’ll share how that chapter begins.

[August at Ravincot Hall, Lorcan Langley’s home]

“We could have waited inside.” Alfred Langley smoothed a hand down each sleeve and then gave a tug on the front of his waistcoat to remove any bunches and gathers which might be there.

“You could have waited inside, but I could not,” his cousin, Lorcan Langley replied. “In fact, you could have stayed at your own home. There is really no need for you to be here.”

Cherishing Kitty: I have started first-round edits on this story. I’ve only gotten through about 3 chapters at this moment, but it is started, and that’s the important thing. 😀

What? No Hockey Night in Canada?

Earlier this week, the NHL paused their season, and it seems more and more things are being canceled or suspended for the time being. It’s an unsettling time in our world right now, and all those who have been affected by these challenging times have been in my prayers. However, I wanted to do something, small as it might be, that was tangible to help put some enjoyment out there for those needing some entertainment and an escape. After all…

Proverbs 17:22  A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…(KJV)]

With that in mind, I looked at the numbers of sales for Unravelling Mr. Darcy, Becoming Entangled, and Enticing Miss Darcy, a trilogy of rom-com stories that is currently part of the group of book in Kindle Unlimited right now, and reduced the story with the lowest number of sales to FREE for the weekend. (I figured the story with the lowest sales meant there was a greater chance that this book would be one that would be “new” to more readers.)

And then, I thought, well, since the lowest sales book was book three, Enticing Miss Darcy, there might be some who want to read the first two books and don’t have Kindle Unlimited. Therefore, I reduced the price on the other two books, Unravelling Mr. Darcy and Becoming Entangled, to $0.99 for the weekend. This is not a Kindle Countdown deal because then the poor reader in Canada who needs something to do on Saturday night rather than cheering on their favourite hockey team would not get to share in the savings on these books. So the price for these books is reduced worldwide based on that $0.99 USD price.

Please share this information with anyone you might think would like to have something new to read.

I have another free weekend scheduled for a different book in a couple of weeks from now, but I’ll think about maybe doing something next weekend as well like a 99 cent weekend on something. I’ll let you know next Saturday. I just think we all need something happy to look forward to right now.

Book Review

This week, I’m taking the chance to thank Katzanne both for messaging me a couple of years ago about wanting a Georgiana story and for this lovely review. 🙂

I’m happy to receive requests like this from readers. A few stories have started that way. As you’ll notice, Katzanne has another suggestion for a story in this review. You’ll have to let me know if you agree with her that Harold needs a story. (I also have a note written in my notebook about someone also wanting a story about how Genevieve became Lady Matlock. You can let me know what you think about that too, if you want.)

There are some stories where I get done with a story or series, and I just don’t want to leave those characters. This set of three stories (Unravelling Mr. Darcy, Becoming Entangled, and Enticing Miss Darcy) was one of those times where I was sad to see the story end.

And that is it for this week’s news and updates. Remember that this upcoming Thursday is when Georgiana and Alfred’s story begins. 🙂

Have a good weekend! I’ll see you on Monday.

Leenie Brown

Leenie Brown fell in love with Jane Austen's works when she first read Sense and Sensibility followed immediately by Pride and Prejudice in her early teens. As the second of five daughters and an avid reader, she has always loved to see where her imagination takes her and to play with and write about the characters she meets along the way. In 2013, these two loves collided when she stumbled upon the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction. A year later, in 2014, she began writing her own Austen-inspired stories and began publishing them in 2015. Leenie lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with her two teenage boys and her very own Mr. Brown (a wonderful mix of all the best of Darcy, Bingley and Edmund with healthy dose of the teasing Mr. Tillney and just a dash of the scolding Mr. Knightley).

  1. My friends were already talking about this so I am excited for you. I grabbed what I didn’t already own. I plan to purchase all those ARC books I’ve read over the years. Yeah for sales.

    1. That’s wonderful to hear. 🙂 There have been a good number of downloads of each book which is wonderful. I’m delighted that there are readers who can take advantage of this sale and get to know Anne and Jack and Alistair and Georgiana and Lady Margaret… 🙂
